Westminster Bridge

The original Westminster Bridge was designed by the Swiss architect Charles Labelye and was built between 1739-1750.
In the mid 19th century the bridge was sinking badly and expensive to maintain. The current bridge was designed by Thomas Page and opened in 1862. It is a seven-arch wrought iron bridge, Gothic detailing by Charles Barry. He was also the architect of the Palace of Westminster. The bridge is painted mainly green the same colour as the leather seats in the House of Commons in the Palace of Westminster.
It is the oldest bridge in central London. (overall length 252metres or 826.8 feet and 26metres or 88 feet wide)
