Sunrise On The Pumping Station

The reticulated water supply for Mount Gambier eventuated in 1883 its source was from the Blue Lake. The Blue Lake pumping station was built in 1884 on a ledge 150 feet above the water level in the crater,the building was extended in 1909.
In 1922 its steam plant was replaced with electrical power and with other alterations to the building was finished in 1973.
With improved technology there have been many changes over the years to the pumping station improving the efficiency of the pumping system. The old Pumping Station still contains the control board, electrical equipment and has a museum display of picturesque old equipment, the jewel in the crown is a Venturi flow meter approximately twice the size of a grandfather clock.
